Own a winery or a wine business, and you are not getting anywhere on social media? Well, we know the feeling; we have been there. I mean, try building an app to simultaneously disrupt the whole social media world and the wine world. Talk about a challenge. However, as we learn, you can learn with us and do what you did in the first place when you made that post. To sell your wine and expand your brand.
Did you know that engagement rates on Instagram have been declining for three years in a row? Add now Threads; I am sure that number will only continue as how do you choose between Instagram and threads?
So, where do you start? Well, joining the Winelikes App is a great start! (Shameless plug) However, it would be best if you were unique in your social media outreach. Anyone can post a bottle shot; trust me, we have done so many, and I see wineries and even influencers do it. Does GenZ care about what you are drinking, or does it care more about where and what experience you are having? Nowadays, it is all about experience; we can even see that video on social media platforms is king as it shows experiences and provokes feelings. A photograph of a wine bottle doesn’t cause “FOMO” (fear of missing out), but imagine a short video of someone harvesting and tasting the grape right from the vine! Who wouldn’t want to do that?
It is posts that need to be unique and your messaging. For example, when selling your wine, would you have the same sales pitch to a sommelier to bring your wine into the establishment they oversee versus a potential customer at your winery to make them become a club member? No, you wouldn’t, so the same goes for social media. You need different posts with different messaging and not just a couple; you need several!
Regardless of how fantastic your posts/videos/messaging can be, you are up against the mighty algorithm. And that is constantly changing; you always have to figure it out, and worse, it isn’t transparent at all to tell you what you need to do to get likes, engagement, new followers, and most importantly, someone to view that post to then go to your website and make a purchase.
In case you did not know, TikTok will censor any mention of alcohol. If there’s even so much as a wine bottle in the background somewhere, the video will disappear. So don’t waste your time. If you hire an influencer to continue to post, it will get some traction as the algorithm awards consistency, so it likes to see one person, one voice. However, the time and effort you put into it won’t matter as much as the other social media platforms.
It does sound so discouraging, and it is; you feel like you have to do social media because that is what is expected as a business, and you do have to grow your brand. It is expensive and trusts us we should know as we are a new brand too so we understand. What do you think has more of an ROI: writing an email about your wine to convince someone to purchase it or putting together a post to evoke that emotion so someone, by chance, sees it and goes to your website to make a purchase?
Well, we all know the answer, as email marketing is very successful, so what if you could do both in one action? Would you do it?
On the Winelikes app, you can direct message any user. Better yet, if your winery is just a Pinot Noir producer, you can direct message just the users who have ever used the hashtag Pinot Noir. So what will you direct message them? How about a simple offer? For example, you could message all those wine drinkers, go to XYYZwine.com, and put in promo code Winelikes10 at checkout to get 10 percent off. Or you could do it in the app feed where a user clicks on your ad; it goes straight to your wine for sale tab! Remember how we talked about messaging? There are tons of features in the Winelikes app so that you can have different messaging. What if you want to reach those who love cooking? You can post recipes and pair them with your specific wines. And for sommeliers, you can post quizzes about your winery’s history or winemaker. There is an event page where you can post your wine events to attract customers. Winelikes isn’t just another social media platform; it is the only platform dedicated to everything wine and helping you sell wine and increase your brand awareness for less time and less money.
